Appropriate behavior for Group Discussions and Socratic Seminars

  • Listen.
  • Be respectful.
  • Make eye contact.
  • Don’t interrupt.
  • Talk to the other person.
  • Respond to what the other person has said.
  • It’s okay to disagree but don’t be mean about it.
  • Use the text.
  • It’s okay to talk about personal examples if they relate to the discussion.
  • Ask questions when you don’t understand.
  • Take the time to think before you talk.
  • Be willing to change your mind.
  • Share the spotlight.
  • “TWO BEFORE ME”
  • YOUR OPINION IS GOLD IF YOU CAN SUPPORT IT WITH EVIDENCE OR EXAMPLES. OTHERWISE, IT REALLY DOES NOT ADD TO THE DISCUSSION.
