Aim: How do we manage new vocabulary?

Do Now: On your blog, write one new vocabulary word you have acquired so far in this class and its definition.

We've encountered some challenging vocabulary for the non-medical professional in the short time since we began reading articles about teen brains, and we will acquire a lot more. Not knowing words doesn't have to get in the way if you read "holistically" using context clues. But sometimes, especially when you are dealing with medical and scientific terms, context clues are not enough.

Step 1: Open a free account at https://www.vocabulary.com/  to help when you stumble over especially difficult or technical words.

Step 2: Create a brain science vocabulary list by clicking the tab at the top of the Web site. As you continue to read articles in this course, look up brain science-related words and collect them in your brain science vocabulary list at vocabulary.com.

Step 3: Compile a list of at least five words based on your readings so far.

Step 4: Share your list with a partner.

P.S. You don't have to save this account just for this class. Use it for your other classes as well.

Final Reflection: What the big deal about vocabulary anyway? Write a short reflection on your blog discussing why you think it is important to acquire new vocabulary.
